One 14-year-old youth was discovered deceased just days after being falsely accused of stealing the cremated remains of a dead baby during a break-in, an inquest has heard.

Heartbreaking Discovery

The young boy's parents discovered his remains in his room at his Connah's Quay residence on 19 November 2021.

False Allegations Begin

The inquest heard how his parent received a message on 8 November 2021 via online platforms, from a individual inquiring if her son was her offspring. The communication stated: "Inform him thanks for breaking into my apartment."

In a statement presented to the proceedings, the mother said the individual had been in the news, claiming her baby's ashes had been taken in a burglary - a claim which was untrue.

Police Investigation

An official inquiry from authorities later determined the supposed break-in victim had "lied to police" and "it now appears that said property was not taken in the beginning".

Media reports about the alleged taken remains attracted online responses, and although Kai was not named in the messages, his mother said individuals "knew it was him".

The "online posts were extremely distressing", she stated.

Emotional Health Impact

She added that Kai had been diagnosed with moderate attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, and as part of that condition, other peoples' views genuinely were important to him.

"This must have hurt him deeply," she commented, "especially when this was not true".

Kai was arrested at home, but nothing was found. He was taken to a law enforcement facility and later released under investigation.

Police said they would be in touch, the hearing learned, but had failed to contacted the family by the time of his passing.

Withdrawal and Worry

His mother said Kai "became isolated" after the detention and "would keep asking me whether I had received anything from the police", because his condition meant sometimes "certain periods could feel like much longer".

When she talked to him about the supposed incident, she said her son told her he had entered the residence because the resident who resided there had said he could use the bathroom anytime he needed, but denied removing anything.

Online Bullying

In a joint statement between her and her spouse, Mrs Lloyd said her child was being bullied digitally after the allegations.

The inquest learned that one young adult encouraged the teenager to kill himself.

She had no worries on the night before he died, explaining how she had listened to him "laughing and teasing".

She portrayed him as a "compassionate, affectionate" young man, and said her "family is completely devastated".

He had been "clearly hiding his worries", she stated, adding that he could not stand to have anyone "think bad of him".

Educational Reaction

The inquest heard from educational staff at the local secondary school.

On 8 November, she "heard some boys discussing that Kai had been detained and that was the initial I heard".

"He told me... he'd done nothing wrong," she added.

After the discussion, the educator said she called the family's parents' telephone and provided a voicemail saying she had communicated to Kai about the accusations.

The proceedings heard his family said they did not got that communication.

Official Conclusion

Senior investigator told the inquest he would wait for documents regarding what enhancements had been made to handling individuals with ADHD, before determining whether he should make a prevention of future deaths report.

Delivering a narrative conclusion, he said: "Around November 8th, 2021, unsupported accusations were made against the teenager, a young individual.

"Likely untruths were subsequently embellished and amplified through the platform of online networks.

"During November 11th, he was questioned by the police and following his questioning he was released whilst investigations proceeded."

The official determined: "There is no evidence that the acts or omissions of any agency caused or added to his death and although it was the outcome of a self-inflicted action it is not possible to determine his intent."
